Description

For more than 150 years, public health has expanded what’s possible in the United States—adding decades to life expectancy and improving quality of life for millions. These achievements were not accidental. They came from the dedication of community health workers, medical professionals, scientists, and advocates who fought for evidence-based policies rooted in equity.

Yet many of these hard-won gains are often taken for granted. National Public Health Week (NPHW) 2026 calls on all Americans to recommit to strengthening the systems, science, and community partnerships that protect and promote our health.

This year’s theme—Ready. Set. Action!—encourages us to reflect on how far we’ve come while focusing on the steps needed to build a healthier future. Because one thing remains clear:

Good health doesn’t just happen.
